What Better Way to Celebrate Our Country’s Independence than with Cheese?
Our country was set apart from the monarch of Britain on July 4, 1776. This historical day is celebrated every year, as our National Day, with parades, barbecues, fireworks, carnivals, concerts, baseball games, family reunions and political speeches. For these many gatherings, it’s important there is plenty of food and drinks for the festivities. That is where Williams Cheese comes in!
Being one the many Michigan cheese companies, we offer premium grade cheeses to all of our customers. One of the main cheeses we like to draw attention to, around this time of year, is Swiss cheese. There are so many recipes that call for Swiss cheese, but we’d like to draw your attention to 2 that are worthy of any crowd.
Swiss Steak Burgers – a hearty and savory burger topped with your favorite Swiss cheese. If you like mouthwatering burgers that are loaded with your favorite toppings, this is the burger for you! For the complete recipes and instructions, click here.

Talking about fun festivities for the 4th of July, it’s always great to start off the day with a wonderful parade in your local community or wherever you are spending time this holiday! Watching the veterans walking with our great flag, the first responders and their vehicles, the band playing music with the color guard, the many floats decorated in Red, White and Blue, the list goes on and on! After enjoying a morning celebration, people love to get together with family and friends for barbecues, family reunions, etc.. Catching up with loved ones, playing yard games, swimming in the many lakes our great state offers, enjoying the freedom our founding fathers gave to us is amazing and so important. Ending the day in grand fashion watching a display of fireworks is the best way to cheer and be thankful for what we have. There truly is no other day in the year that is celebrated continuously throughout the day and night!
Holey Swiss Cheese!
Having the expertise of being a Swiss cheese company, we have perfected how to produce Swiss cheese that meets the standards set by industry regulators, to obtain a Grade A stamp. Now you are probably thinking, why does Swiss cheese have holes? Let us educate you more on one of our favorite cheeses! In a late stage of cheese production, the propionibacteria consume the lactic acid excreted by the other bacteria (streptococcus salivarius subspecies thermophilus and lactobacillus) and release acetate, propionic acid, and carbon dioxide gas. The carbon dioxide slowly forms the bubbles that develop the “eyes,” or holes as most people call them. The acetate and propionic acid give Swiss its nutty and sweet flavor.Swiss cheese that is produced without eyes are called “blind cheese.” We love being known as Swiss Cheese Makers!
Did you know there are many different types of Swiss cheeses? We all have heard of Swiss cheese, but there are several other varieties to choose from. Our Amish Country line offers Swiss cheese and Baby Swiss cheese. While our Williams Cheese line offers Smoked Swiss cheese and Smokey Swiss spread, both are hickory smoked to give the cheese its unique smokey taste we all love and crave! Williams Cheese History:
In 1945 our family embarked on producing cheese and selling it to the community. Jim and Jenny Williams started out using an old barn as the first facility to house our business. Over the past 75 years, we have moved into a massive facility where all our cheeses are produced and distributed to our retails, as well as, our factory outlet located here in Linwood. Venturing into our facility, you get a glimpse into what we do in mass production, by looking through the many windows around our factory outlet. Many visitors watch for long periods of time as we process the ingredients needed to create the cheese. Our family is committed to quality and retaining the high standards that have kept us in business all these years. We take pride in offering top quality cheese, at a great value and friendly folks whom appreciate your business and loyalty! Without our customers, we would not be where we are today, so we thank each of you for stopping into our store, shopping on our website or picking up our product on local grocery store shelves!
Did you know that we are committed to our local economy and community? Each year we host local school district’s elementary programs for a tour of our facility, it’s a great learning experience for anyone that loves to see how things are made! We are proud sponsors of the Pinconning Cheese Festival in June each year, as well as, the Pickle Festival in August. Bringing our top quality cheeses and friendly staff to these events is important to our company. We love the people we live, work and play with!
